Flavia withdraws from ‘dominate 2026’ women’s conference

Media personality and Head of Broadcast at Nation Media Group–Uganda, Flavia Tumusiime, has withdrawn from the lineup of speakers for the forthcoming Dominate 2026 women’s conference, following days of intense online discussion and criticism over the event’s messaging.

The event, scheduled for 28 March 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds, was billed by organisers as a platform to encourage women to “dominate in life while remaining submissive within marriage.” However, after the initial announcement that Tumusiime would be among the keynote speakers, the theme sparked a heated debate on social media.

Critics argued that the conference’s framing of both ambition and submission in one message was contradictory and at odds with contemporary views on women’s empowerment.

On platforms like X and Facebook, social media users questioned why Tumusiime — widely respected for her professional achievements and influence in Ugandan media — would associate with language perceived as limiting or regressive.

One commenter suggested that her voice would be better placed speaking on topics such as leadership, workplace dynamics, and professional excellence rather than marital submission.

In response to the backlash, organisers confirmed that Tumusiime will not be joining the event as previously announced. A post shared by one of the conference organisers on social media thanked her for her initial willingness to participate but noted she would no longer speak at the March gathering.

The Dominate 2026 conference theme had ignited discussion about how women’s empowerment is defined and communicated, particularly when traditional expectations intersect with modern professional aspirations.

As the date approaches, conversations around the event continue to evolve online.
