WAKISO — The Uganda Police Force has recovered a rifle that was stolen during a robbery at a fuel station in Matugga earlier this month, in a development that could aid ongoing investigations into the attack.

The firearm was taken on March 9, 2026, during a robbery at Stabex Fuel Station in Namakonkome. It had been in the possession of a security guard attached to Knight Security, who was on duty at the time of the incident.

According to police, the weapon was recovered on March 22 at around 11:00 a.m. in Namakonkome, Gombe Division, Wakiso District.

Preliminary findings indicate that a local resident discovered the suspected firearm while working in her garden and quickly alerted authorities.

“The resident noticed an object resembling a gun in her garden and promptly informed police, which led to its recovery and safe custody as an exhibit,” police said in a statement.

Authorities have since secured the rifle as evidence, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the robbery.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.
