Police tighten noose on criminals across Kampala Metropolitan

Kampala — Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have stepped up coordinated disruptive operations in a renewed effort to curb crime and enhance public safety, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of suspects across multiple divisions.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal, the intelligence-led operations targeted crime-prone areas in Kampala and the surrounding districts of Wakiso, leading to significant recoveries and arrests.

Kira Division – Wakiso District

On 24 February 2026 at about 8:00pm, police carried out operations in Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi, arresting 81 suspects.

Old Kampala Division

Between 5:00pm and 9:00pm on 24 February, operations in Kisenyi Zone, Muza Zone, and surrounding areas led to the arrest of 152 suspects.

Kira Road Division

On 25 February 2026, police operations in Universal Kisaasi Sector, Kamwokya, and Kyebando resulted in the arrest of 49 suspects.

Jinja Road Division – Nakawa

At around 11:00pm on 24 February, police arrested 20 suspects during operations in Center Zone, Kaggo Buyinja, and Kinawataka in Nakawa Division.

Nansana Police

Operations conducted at about 12:30am on 25 February in Nansana led to the arrest of 48 suspects.

Wakiso Police Division

On 24 February at about 5:00pm, police operations in Wakiso Town resulted in 23 arrests.

Bulenga Area – Wakiso

Between 4:00pm and 8:00pm on 24 February, police operations in Bulenga — including Musoke Road, Kawuzi Street, Gogonya, and Kikaaya Katogo — led to the arrest of 50 suspects.

Kajjansi Police Division – Wakiso District

At about 5:00pm on 24 February, operations in Kilyamuli, Kilumba, and Namulanda Ward in Kajjansi Town Council resulted in the arrest of six suspects.

During the coordinated crackdown, police recovered several exhibits including rolls of opium, breaking implements, and suspected house-breaking tools.

All suspects remain in police custody. Cases of possession of opium and public nuisance have been opened, and the suspects will undergo screening before being arraigned in court.

Police say the operations will continue as part of broader efforts to deter criminal activity and maintain law and order across the Kampala Metropolitan region.
