The State has asked the High Court sitting in Masaka to adjourn proceedings in the money laundering case against Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira to February 4, 2026, citing the need for additional time to file key affidavits.

Appearing before the court, Principal State Attorney Betty Karungi Gafabusa told the court that the prosecution requires affidavits from the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), which she said are crucial to the case.

Fr Ssekabira is accused of laundering Shs500 million, charges he has denied.

The defence team opposed the request for an adjournment, arguing that the relevant parties were properly served with court documents on January 13 and had ample time to respond. Defence counsel also noted that the hearing had already been adjourned from an earlier date to January 27 and urged the court to proceed without further delays.

Presiding judge Lady Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba heard submissions from both sides and is expected to deliver her ruling on the adjournment application in due course.

The matter remains before the High Court in Masaka.
