A 60-year-old Kampala businessman has been charged in court over alleged forgery and fraud involving prime land in Wakiso District belonging to the estate of the late Mayanja.
The businessman was arraigned before the Magistrates Court and charged with offences linked to falsification of land documents and fraudulent dealings concerning the deceased’s property.
Prosecution alleges that the accused processed and presented forged documents in an attempt to claim ownership or gain control of the land without the consent of the rightful beneficiaries.
According to court records, the disputed property forms part of Mayanja’s estate. Investigators claim the accused manipulated transfer documents and signatures to facilitate an illegal transaction.
State prosecutors told court that investigations began after Mayanja’s family raised complaints about irregularities in land records at the Wakiso District Land Office. A subsequent probe reportedly revealed inconsistencies in the documentation, prompting criminal proceedings.
The accused denied the charges and was remanded as investigations continue. Court fixed the matter for mention on a later date.
Legal experts note that estate-related land disputes in Wakiso and greater Kampala have increasingly led to criminal prosecutions due to alleged forgery, double titling, and unlawful transfers.
The case is expected to proceed as investigators gather more evidence, including forensic examination of the disputed documents and statements from land registry officials and family members of the deceased.
If convicted, the businessman could face serious penalties under Uganda’s Penal Code Act on forgery and obtaining property by false pretence.
