KAMPALA, UGANDA — Police in Kireka have arrested a woman believed to be the prime suspect in the killing of Moses Omaido, a senior human resource officer with the Local Government Finance Commission, following a violent incident in Mbalwa, Kira Municipality.

The suspect, identified as Aliya Nakimera, was apprehended in Mityana District where she had allegedly fled after the incident. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest, stating that Nakimera is in custody and will be formally charged once investigations are concluded.

Police say Nakimera had previously been in a relationship with the deceased, a detail investigators believe is central to understanding the circumstances surrounding the killing. Her arrest follows the earlier detention of Agadi Oliver, who was reportedly in a relationship with Omaido at the time of his death and has been assisting police with inquiries.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident followed a tense night at Omaido’s residence, where both women were present. Authorities believe a personal dispute escalated into violence the following morning.

According to investigators, on March 26, Omaido was preparing to leave for work when a disagreement broke out. Nakimera allegedly attempted to stop him from leaving, leading to a confrontation that turned violent.

In her statement to police, Agadi said she had briefly gone to the bathroom during the altercation and did not witness what transpired. However, upon returning, she reportedly found blood in the bedroom, while both Omaido and Nakimera were missing.

The victim’s body was later discovered along a path near his home with a fatal stab wound to the neck, suggesting a violent struggle shortly before his death.

Omaido was described by colleagues as a committed public servant. In addition to his role at the Local Government Finance Commission, he previously served in district local governments in Ngora and Oyam, and worked with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and the Uganda National Meteorological Authority.

Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
