Kampala, Uganda — Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has shared an Easter message with the nation, calling on Ugandans to embrace hope, renewal, and faith as Christians marked the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In a message posted on social media on April 5, Museveni extended greetings to citizens across the country, with special mention of the youth he often refers to as “Bazukulu.”
“Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu. Greetings once again. We wish you a Happy Easter. God bless you,” Museveni wrote.
The president’s message emphasised the significance of Easter as a symbol of victory over death and a promise of new beginnings, themes central to Christian belief. Accompanying his message were images showing him spending time with family at his country home in Rwakitura.
First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni also joined in extending Easter wishes, conveying blessings to Ugandans and encouraging reflection during the religious holiday.
Across the political divide, other leaders shared similar messages of faith and unity. Former Leader of the Opposition Mathias Mpuuga called for hope and reconciliation, while Speaker Emerita Rebecca Kadaga urged Ugandans to embrace peace and spiritual renewal.
Easter, one of the most important dates on the Christian calendar, is widely observed in Uganda with church services, family gatherings, and charitable activities.
This year’s messages come at a time when the country continues to navigate political differences, with leaders from both government and opposition using the occasion to promote unity, reflection, and a shared sense of national purpose.
