Kampala — The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has handed global bans to several Ugandan football figures, including former Express FC coach Mike Mutyaba, over match-fixing allegations linked to a 2024 league fixture.

According to a statement by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Mutyaba, goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa, and former club CEO Miiro Ashraf Mwanje have been banned from all football-related activities worldwide, effective March 12, 2026.

The sanctions stem from investigations into a Uganda Premier League match involving Express FC and Kitara FC in 2024.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has extended global suspensions to two former Express FC officials and a player for match-fixing in a 2024 league game,” FUFA said in a statement, confirming that FIFA had formally communicated the decisions to all concerned parties.

FUFA also noted that another case involving Mbazira Ashiraf is still under review by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The latest sanctions add to a growing list of Ugandan football stakeholders previously punished for match manipulation. Those already serving FIFA-recognized bans include Saleh Maganda, Franco Oringa, Godfrey Lwesibawa, Yahaya Mahad Kakooza, and Andrew Waiswa, all serving five-year bans.

Referees George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio are serving 10-year bans for related offences.

FUFA emphasized that the global nature of FIFA’s sanctions means the affected individuals are barred from participating in any football activity worldwide during the period of their bans.

The governing body reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the sport and warned against involvement in match-fixing and related misconduct.
