Mukono, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force has arrested two suspects in connection with the vandalism of electricity infrastructure at Azam Construction Company Limited in Buligobe Village, Nama Sub-county.

The suspects, identified as Mzee Asheraf and Mubiru Geoffrey, were taken into custody following a rapid police response to a report made on February 24, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m.

Security Guard Report Triggers Swift Response

According to police, a security guard stationed at the construction site discovered that electric cables had been cut and immediately reported the matter.

Officers from the local security team requested canine assistance to track the suspects.

The Mukono canine unit deployed a police dog named Judge, which successfully picked up a human scent from the crime scene.

Police said the dog tracked the scent for approximately 300 metres, leading investigators directly to the residence where the suspects were reportedly found.

Recovery of Evidence

During a search operation, investigators recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the vandalism, including: tools suspected to have been used to cut the electricity cables from the power pole, shoes containing soil samples that matched soil from the crime scene and other items considered relevant to the investigation.

Authorities said the physical evidence strengthened the case against the suspects.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The police warned members of the public against vandalising public infrastructure, noting that such acts disrupt development projects and expose communities to safety risks.

Security agencies have pledged to intensify surveillance of construction sites and power installations to curb infrastructure vandalism.
