Police in Nateete have arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with a disturbing case of child torture in Wakiso District.

According to Racheal Kawala, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police under the Uganda Police Force, the suspect—identified as Nankunda Esther—is currently in custody as investigations continue.

The incident is reported to have occurred in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division in Wakiso District. The victim is a 10-year-old boy, a Primary Four pupil, who had reportedly been left in the care of the suspect by her brother.

Preliminary police findings indicate that on March 20, 2026, during Eid Day celebrations, at around 5:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly subjected the child to severe abuse. She is accused of burning the boy’s hands using a heated white polythene bag, reportedly accusing him of stealing 100,000 Ugandan shillings.

Authorities say the child has since been rescued and taken for medical examination, and is currently receiving care.

Police have condemned the act, describing it as cruel and unacceptable, and reiterated their commitment to protecting children from abuse and exploitation.

The suspect remains in detention and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations progress.

Law enforcement officials have urged the public to report cases of child abuse and to ensure that children entrusted to caregivers are treated with care, dignity, and respect.
