Kazo — The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, has commended and rewarded two private security guards in Kazo District with cash awards of UGX 500,000 each for demonstrating exceptional integrity after they rejected a bribe from suspected cattle thieves and instead alerted the police.

The incident occurred between December 16 and 17, 2025, when the guards, whose vigilance proved decisive, were approached by suspects attempting to unlawfully move stolen cattle through the area. Rather than accepting the bribe offered to look the other way, the guards promptly informed the Uganda Police Force.

Acting on the information, police swiftly arrested the suspects involved and successfully recovered all the stolen animals, dealing a significant blow to cattle theft, a persistent challenge in parts of the region.

In recognition of their honesty and cooperation with law enforcement, IGP Byakagaba personally rewarded the guards, praising them as role models in the fight against crime. He emphasised that integrity and collaboration between communities, private security personnel, and the police are critical in maintaining law and order.

“This is the kind of partnership we want to see—citizens and security actors standing firm against corruption and criminality,” Byakagaba said, urging others to emulate the guards’ conduct.

The gesture has been widely welcomed as a strong message against corruption and crime. Several media outlets, including NTV Uganda, highlighted the story as a commendable example of ethical behaviour and community vigilance in combating cattle theft.

Police reiterated their commitment to rewarding integrity and called on the public to continue providing timely information to help prevent and respond to crime across the country.
