MUKONO — The Mukono Grade 1 Magistrate’s Court has remanded Taewaiko Dak Hussein, also known as Sam, in connection with the brutal murder of Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

Appearing before Magistrate William Muwonge on Friday, Taewaiko faced charges of murder and aggravated robbery under the Penal Code Act. Due to the capital nature of the offenses, the accused was not permitted to enter a plea, as these cases are strictly triable by the High Court.

The Allegations

The prosecution alleges that on February 11, 2026, at Gwafu West Cell in Mukono District, Taewaiko—a former employee of the deceased—unlawfully killed Tumwebaze with malice aforethought.

In addition to the murder charge, the court heard that Taewaiko robbed the victim of several items, including:

Electronics: A Samsung Galaxy smartphone and a phone charger.

Currency: Shs 200,000, 900 Ghanaian Cedis, Kenyan Shillings, and Botswana coins.

Personal Effects: A jean dress, a black-and-white jumper, and a leather document folder.

Arrest and Evidence

Taewaiko’s run from the law ended on February 14 in Budaka District. Security agencies tracked him to a hideout where he was reportedly staying with his mother. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly found in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone and other items, which investigators have cited as crucial evidence linking him to the scene.

Next Steps

Magistrate Muwonge has remanded the suspect to Luzira Prison until March 19, 2026, when the case will return to court for mention as investigations continue.
