MITYANA — A man described by authorities as a notorious land grabber has been charged and remanded over allegations of obtaining millions of shillings through fraudulent land transactions in Mityana District.

The suspect, Lutwaama Isaac Magandaazi, was arraigned before the Mityana Chief Magistrate’s Court and charged with obtaining money by false pretences. He has been remanded until April 9, 2026.

According to the State House Anti Corruption Unit, the case was handled in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Prosecutors allege that between March and August 2020, in Nawanga, Zigoti Town Council, Mityana District, Lutwaama falsely claimed he was selling land located at Block 24, Plot 53, which he did not own.

He is accused of fraudulently obtaining Shs37 million from a victim after misrepresenting ownership of the said property.

Investigations further established that the land in question belonged to a rightful owner and was not available for sale.

Authorities say the suspect later confessed to receiving money from the complainant under false pretences.

The Anti-Corruption Unit further revealed that Lutwaama is linked to several similar cases in both Mityana and Wakiso districts, raising concerns of a wider land fraud network.

Members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar dealings have been urged to come forward to assist ongoing investigations.

The case is expected to return to court on April 9, 2026, as investigations continue.
