Mbale, Uganda — Four people were injured on 17 March 2026 following an explosion involving an unidentified object at a scrap metal workshop in St. Andrews Cell, South Central Ward, Industrial Division, Mbale City.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Diana Nandawula, the incident occurred while workers were offloading scrap metal from a vehicle. “The injured persons were promptly evacuated to Mbale Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment,” she confirmed in a statement on X.

A Police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. Fragments of the suspected explosive device were recovered and taken for detailed analysis and examination.

Nandawula urged the public, particularly scrap dealers and collectors, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unfamiliar objects to authorities. “This is crucial to prevent similar incidents and ensure public safety,” she said.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and police are working to determine whether the object was deliberately placed or accidental.
