Kampala, Uganda — Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East and KMP South have arrested a total of 147 suspects during coordinated disruptive operations conducted on February 17, 2026, in Wakiso and Mukono districts.

The operations were carried out following increased cases of robbery, mugging, burglary and drug-related crimes reported in the two districts.

According to the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the joint operations targeted identified crime hotspots and black spots believed to harbour criminal elements.

At Kirinya Police Post in Bweyogerere Division (Wakiso District), under Kira Road Police Division, police arrested three suspects identified as Waiswa Sabastiano, Omara Moses Innocent, and Abila Jimmy.

Police said the trio was arrested for allegedly waylaying and assaulting members of the public while armed with a panga, sticks, a brick, and a paver.

In Kyampisi Sub-county in Mukono District, officers from Nagalama Police Division arrested 13 suspects in Kabembe suburb for being in possession of suspected narcotic substances.

Meanwhile, in an operation conducted under Kabalagala Police Division in KMP South, police arrested 125 suspects from Kansanga, Nsambya, Kabalagala, and Kibuli over suspected involvement in criminal activities and possession of suspected drugs.

In another operation in Wantoni under Mukono Central Division, police, together with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), arrested six suspects and recovered two numberless motorcycles suspected to have been used in criminal activities.

ASP Owoyesigyire said all the suspects are currently in custody pending prosecution.

He added that police will continue conducting disruptive operations in identified crime hotspots to ensure the safety and security of communities within the Kampala Metropolitan area.
