Police in the Greater Kampala area have arrested 39 suspects during coordinated anti-crime operations conducted across several divisions on March 4, 2026.

The operations were carried out by the Uganda Police Force under the Kampala Metropolitan Police and targeted areas identified as crime hotspots.

According to police, the crackdown focused on Kevina Road in Kabalagala Division, Kikuuta in Namataba Town Council in Mukono District, Kyebando around Premax Hotel and Kisalasalo under Kira Road Division, Nkrumah Road and Entebbe Road traffic lights in Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, and Luzira–Portbell under Jinja Road Police Division.

Police said the suspects were rounded up from known black spots associated with criminal activities such as robbery, bag and phone snatching, vehicle part theft, and attacks on pedestrians.

Some of the suspects were also allegedly involved in smoking suspected narcotics, according to police.

“Some suspects were found in possession of stones and pavers believed to be used to assault victims, as well as suspected narcotic substances,” said Luke Owoyesigyire.

All 39 suspects have been charged under the respective Station Diary references and are currently detained at different police stations as they await processing and prosecution.

Police say they have intensified both covert and overt operations, including patrols and intelligence-led investigations, aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in the city.

Authorities said the situation in the affected areas remains calm, adding that similar operations will continue as part of efforts to improve public safety across Kampala and neighbouring districts.
