Kampala — Two women have been arraigned before the Kira Magistrates Court on multiple charges linked to an alleged land fraud scheme in Wakiso District.

The suspects, Kamakune Lucky and Nabatanzi Hadijja, were charged in a joint operation involving the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They face charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, forgery, and uttering false documents.

According to SHIPU, the two, together with others still at large, allegedly conspired to fraudulently claim ownership of a plot of land located in Kyadondo, Kiwologoma, Kira Division in Wakiso District, which belongs to a one Ms Karungi Suzan.

Investigators say the suspects purportedly forged a land title, which they later presented to a financial institution in Ntinda, Kampala, as collateral in an attempt to secure a loan of Shs30 million.

In a statement shared online, SHIPU said: “This afternoon, while collaborating with ODPP and CID, SHIPU has seen Kamakune Lucky and Nabatanzi Hadijja arraigned before Kira Magistrates Court on charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, forgery and uttering false documents in a land fraud case.”

The unit added: “The two women and others still at large… conspired and fraudulently claimed ownership of a plot of land… and forged a land title which they presented… as collateral while requesting a loan of thirty million shillings.”

The accused have been remanded to Luzira Prison until March 31, 2026, when they will reappear in court.

SHIPU, under the leadership of Col. Edith Nakalema, reaffirmed its commitment to combating fraud.

“SHIPU reiterates its commitment to fighting fraud that threatens investment and the socio-economic transformation of our country, while collaborating with stakeholders,” the statement noted.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the case.
