Luwero — Two people have been confirmed dead after a bus belonging to Real Bus Company rammed into the rear of a tipper truck along the busy Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luwero District.

The accident occurred at around 4:00am on Sunday in Kiwumpa Village when a bus traveling from Lira City to Kampala crashed into the rear of an Isuzu Hino truck as both vehicles were heading toward the capital.

According to Sam Twiineamazima, the bus, registration number UAL 821N, struck the truck under circumstances that are still under investigation.

The victims were identified as the bus driver, David Mukembo, and the conductor, who both died at the scene. Two male passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Luwero General Hospital for treatment, while other occupants of the vehicles escaped without serious injuries.

Police officers responded to the scene, documented the crash, and towed the vehicles to a nearby police station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Road accidents remain a major safety concern in Uganda, particularly along major highways connecting the capital to other regions. Police statistics show thousands of people die in road crashes each year, often linked to speeding, reckless overtaking and driver fatigue.

Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to exercise caution on highways and observe traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
