City lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi has been further remanded to Luzira Prison after the prosecution asked court for more time to verify the sureties presented in his bail application.

Mabirizi is facing charges of malicious communication and hate speech, allegedly arising from TikTok posts targeting Chief Justice Flavian Zeija and Court of Appeal Justice Musa Ssekaana.

The case came up on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.

Through his lawyers, Anthony Asiimwe and Yasin Ssentumbwe Munagomba, Mabirizi applied for bail, telling court that he has a fixed place of residence in Kiwomu Zone, Mulago, Kampala.

To support his application, he presented four sureties: lawyer Nasser Kibazo, his sister Rukiat Ssebadduka, his brother Ismeal Nsereko, and poultry farmer Coas Mbaziira.

However, prosecutors requested additional time to verify the authenticity and suitability of the proposed sureties before court could make a ruling on the bail request.

The magistrate granted the request and adjourned the matter, extending Mabirizi’s remand as verification continues. Court is expected to set a new date for hearing and determination of the bail application.
