Founding Kampala University vice-chancellor Prof. Badru Katerega’s wife, Jolly Shubaiha Katerega, has issued a formal statement to “categorically and unequivocally” refute rumours circulating on social media regarding a purported affair with the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo.

The statement, titled “OFFICIAL STATEMENT,” aims to set the record straight following what Katerega describes as “false and malicious allegations” appearing in various media sections.

Key Denials and Clarifications

In the document, Jolly outlines several points to debunk the claims:

No Personal Connection: Katerega states they have never met AIGP Tom Magambo at any time or place.

No Professional Ties: The statement clarifies that there is no personal, professional, or business relationship between the two parties.

Unfounded Claims: The allegations are dismissed as “completely unfounded, baseless, and misleading”.

Impact on Institutions and Individuals

Beyond personal reputation, Jolly emphasised that such misinformation constitutes an attack on the integrity of public institutions and the government as a whole. The statement condemns the “reckless misinformation” for its potential to damage the standing of senior public servants.

Legal Status and Future Action

Jolly further clarified that a personal matter is currently being handled by a competent civil court of law. The public and media are urged to allow this judicial process to take its course and await a final judgment rather than engaging in speculation.

The statement concludes with a stern warning: “I reserve my right to take appropriate legal action against any individuals or platforms that continue to propagate these false allegations.”

Media houses have been urged to exercise responsibility and verify all information before publication to avoid spreading unverified and harmful claims.
