KAMPALA, Uganda — Police in Wandegeya have arrested two suspects found roaming at night while armed with dangerous weapons, in an operation aimed at curbing crime in the city.

The suspects, identified as Omirambe Nizara, 18, and Ochom Daniel, 23, are residents of Kawempe Division in Kampala.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the duo was arrested in the early hours of March 18, 2026, at about 12:23am during a routine patrol by officers attached to Kikoni B Police Station.

“The officers encountered a group of about six youths near Nyumbani Hotel who fled on seeing the police. Two suspects were apprehended,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that upon searching the suspects, police recovered a panga and a knife concealed on one of them. “One of the suspects, Omirambe Nizara, was found in possession of a panga and a knife hidden on his person,” he said.

The suspects are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Division as investigations continue.

“The case file has been prepared and is pending submission to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice,” Owoyesigyire noted.

Police say operations against criminal elements, especially during night patrols, will continue across Kampala to enhance public safety.
