Uganda’s First Lady Janet Museveni has called on women across the country to participate in a large national prayer initiative aimed at mobilising at least one million women to pray for the nation.
Speaking during engagements with faith leaders and women’s groups, Museveni urged women to take a leading role in spiritual mobilisation for peace, stability and development in Uganda. She said women hold a unique position in shaping families and communities and can influence the nation through prayer.
The First Lady, who also serves as Minister of Education and Sports, emphasised that prayer remains a powerful tool for national transformation and unity. She encouraged women from different denominations and regions to join the movement and dedicate time to praying for the country’s leadership, peace and prosperity.
Museveni has repeatedly highlighted the role of prayer in national life. In previous engagements, she encouraged Ugandans to set aside time for daily prayers for peace and stability, particularly during sensitive political periods.
The initiative is being supported by faith-based networks and international prayer movements working with Ugandan religious leaders to mobilise women across Africa. The First Lady recently hosted a delegation of international prayer leaders involved in movements such as the “A Million Women” prayer campaign to discuss cooperation in spiritual mobilisation and national renewal.
Museveni said the goal of the campaign is not only spiritual revival but also strengthening families and communities.
Women leaders allied to the initiative say the effort aims to unite women across religious and social backgrounds to intercede for Uganda and Africa, especially on issues of peace, moral leadership and social stability.
Over the years, the First Lady has consistently encouraged women to take part in national development and moral guidance, urging them to remain “guardians of peace” and pillars of strong families.
Religious leaders supporting the campaign say the one-million-women prayer drive will include national prayer gatherings, community prayer groups and online mobilisation aimed at reaching women across Uganda and the wider region.
