Rage as university dean beats up student

KAMPALA – The Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) has issued a blistering condemnation following reports of a violent altercation at Metropolitan International University, where a student was allegedly assaulted by a high-ranking staff member.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the student community, came to light after a video began circulating on social media. The footage reportedly shows an individual identified as the University’s Dean of Students brutally beating Musana Brian, a student at the Namugoona-based campus. The assault was so severe that Brian was left bleeding from the mouth.

In an official letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, UNSA President Shilla Ainembabazi expressed deep disappointment and described the treatment of the student as “degrading and ill.”

A Call for Institutional Accountability

The student body is not just asking for an apology; they are demanding a fundamental shift in how discipline is handled within higher education.

“Whatever the circumstances, there should be a tribunal established to handle the discipline of the Students and Staff alike whenever one is considered to have errored,” the statement read.

UNSA has laid out a clear ultimatum for the university administration:

•       A Formal Explanation: The university must account for why a student was subjected to such “embarrassing and degrading” treatment.

•       Immediate Sanctions: Disciplined action must be taken against the Dean and any others involved in the act.

•       Strict Deadline: UNSA has given the university until Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, to act.

Escalation to Higher Authorities

The gravity of the situation is reflected in those copied on the official complaint. The matter has been forwarded to the Minister of State for Higher Education and the Uganda Human Rights Commission, signaling that the student body is prepared to seek justice beyond the university gates if the administration fails to act.

“We strongly condemn acts of treating students like animals,” UNSA posted on their official channels. “We call for justice towards Musana Brian.”

As the March 18th deadline approaches, the spotlight remains firmly on Metropolitan International University. The public and the student body are waiting to see if the institution will uphold the dignity of its students or allow a culture of impunity to take root.
