YouTube tops list of data-hungry apps

A new study by Holafly, shared by World of Statistics, has revealed the apps that consume the most mobile data, shedding light on which platforms may be the biggest drains on users’ data plans.

According to the report, YouTube leads the pack, using an average of 193 MB in just five minutes. Following closely are Disney+ (150 MB), Uber (102 MB), and Snapchat (101 MB).

Streaming and navigation apps dominate the top spots, reflecting the growing trend of video consumption and on-demand services.

Other notable apps on the list include: Prime Video: 97 MB, Google Maps: 87 MB, TikTok: 79 MB, Instagram: 69 MB, Netflix: 53 MB and WhatsApp: just 9 MB.

The data highlights the contrast between media-heavy platforms, like streaming and social media apps, and communication tools such as WhatsApp and Telegram, which use far less data.

Tech analysts suggest that users who want to manage data usage effectively should monitor high-consumption apps, especially those used for video streaming. Features like reduced video quality, offline downloads, and Wi-Fi usage can help limit excessive data consumption.

With mobile data still a costly resource in many regions, understanding which apps consume the most is increasingly relevant for both casual users and heavy mobile internet consumers.
