Kampala, April 8, 2026 — Old Mutual Insurance Uganda has appointed Jjuuko Edrin as its new Head of Medical Business, in a move aimed at strengthening its healthcare insurance portfolio amid growing demand for medical cover solutions.

Announcing the appointment, the company expressed confidence in Dr. Jjuuko’s ability to drive growth and innovation within its medical insurance segment.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Jjuuko Edrin as our new Head of Medical Business at Old Mutual Insurance Uganda,” the company said in a statement. “With over 13 years of experience, he brings strong expertise in healthcare and insurance. We’re confident his leadership will help grow our medical business.”

Dr. Jjuuko joins the insurer with a background that blends clinical practice and health systems management. He previously served as Medical Director at Mildmay Uganda, where he oversaw clinical operations and patient care programmes.

According to Old Mutual, his experience positions him to strengthen the company’s medical offerings, including its Serenicare products, which provide benefits such as inpatient care, dental, and optical services.

In its announcement, the company highlighted his combined expertise in medicine and business strategy.

“He combines clinical insight with commercial acumen and has a proven track record in driving performance, managing risk, and delivering sustainable growth,” the statement noted.

Dr. Jjuuko holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, as well as master’s degrees in Healthcare Management and Family Medicine from the University of Edinburgh. He is also currently pursuing a PhD in Global Health and Health Systems.

In his new role, he is expected to focus on integrating clinical quality with financial performance, while advancing data-driven approaches to healthcare financing and risk management.

The appointment comes at a time when Uganda’s insurance sector is experiencing increased demand for comprehensive and technology-driven health insurance solutions, with firms seeking to position themselves as key partners in delivering accessible and sustainable healthcare.
