NUP supporter arrested for smashing police vehicle

Police at Bulenga Police Station have arrested Kabira Deo (25) in connection with the malicious damage of a police motor vehicle, Registration Number UP 9770, an incident that occurred on 10th January 2026 at Lufula, Nakabugo Parish, Wakiso District.

The incident happened during crowd control operations as National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, was en route to a campaign venue in Ssentema. Preliminary information indicates that the suspect allegedly stoned and smashed the windscreen of the police vehicle while officers were carrying out their lawful duties.

Police officers promptly visited and documented the scene of the crime, leading to the arrest of the suspect. Investigations are ongoing to establish further circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved.

“The Uganda Police Force reiterates its commitment to maintaining public order and safety during political activities and warns against acts of violence and destruction of public property,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer, Kampala Metropolitan Police.
