Sembabule — Police in Greater Masaka Region have charged 12 suspects in connection with a violent political clash that occurred on December 28, 2025, at Kanoni Village, Nakagongo Parish, Matete Sub-county, Sembabule District.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the incident happened at about 3:30 pm when a group of young men allegedly attacked a rival political camp, prompting police to open two counter-case files of assault and immediately commence investigations, said Kasirye Twaha, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Greater Masaka.

As a result of the attack, four people were injured—Kwesiga Livingston, Kiyimba Ronald, Seguya Aloysius, and Tumuhimbtse Jackson—and were rushed to Sembabule Health Centre IV for treatment. All victims were examined using Police Form 3 (PF3).

Medical assessments classified injuries sustained by Kiyimba Ronald and Kwesiga Livingston as “Harm,” while Seguya Aloysius and Tumuhimbtse Jackson suffered “Dangerous Harm.”

Police initially arrested two suspects, recorded their statements, and forwarded the case files to the Regional State Attorney (RSA) for legal guidance. Following the RSA’s advice, Asimwe Deo and Ayijuka Edger were formally charged and produced before the Sembabule Chief Magistrate’s Court, where they were remanded until January 22, 2026.

Further intelligence-led operations conducted on December 30, 2025, led to the arrest of 10 additional suspects, all residents of Sembabule District. They include: Kiberu David (46), of Matete West, alleged ringleader, Nsamba Martin (28), Bukula Village, Ntengo Shadok (22), Bugongo Village, Ssenyange Joseph (20), Manyama Village, Sempijja Herbert (19), Kimuli Road, Matete Town Council, Kamoga Ronald (40), Matete North, Bwanika Bonny (30), Bugongo Village, Kabito Geoffrey Robert (17), student, Bugongo Village, Mwanje Stephen (23), Bugongo Village and Ssenkusu Robert (28), Lugazi, Mijwala Sub-county

The additional suspects were arraigned before the Sembabule Chief Magistrate’s Court on January 7, 2026, and were also remanded until January 22, 2026.

Police have strongly cautioned the public against engaging in violence targeting rival political groups, emphasizing that every Ugandan has a constitutional right to support a political party or candidate of their choice without intimidation or attack.
