Ugandan international Allan Okello has completed a permanent transfer from Vipers SC to Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC (Yanga), marking a major move in his career and one of the region’s most talked-about signings of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder sealed the switch on Monday, just months after emerging as the top scorer in the Uganda Premier League with 19 goals last season, despite largely playing in a creative role.
Announcing his arrival, Young Africans SC celebrated the signing with excitement on social media.
“STAR BOY amefika,” Yanga posted, welcoming Okello in the club’s iconic green and yellow colours. “StarBoy amechagua Makombe. Karibu Young Africans SC,” the club added.
Okello joins Yanga after an impressive spell at Vipers SC, where he made 58 league appearances since 2023, scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists. He also played a key role in domestic cup competitions and CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Vipers SC confirmed the midfielder’s departure with six months left on his contract, praising his influence at the club.
In a farewell message, Okello expressed gratitude to the Kitende-based side and its supporters. “Hello my Venoms, THANK YOU!” Okello wrote.
Vipers, in turn, wished him well, describing him as the team’s “creative heartbeat” during his time at the club.
The move has drawn mixed but emotional reactions from fans across the region, with many Ugandan supporters applauding Okello’s legacy at Vipers, while Tanzanian fans have expressed excitement over what they believe is a marquee signing.
At Young Africans SC, Okello is expected to bolster the club’s attacking options as they push for domestic success and a deeper run in continental competitions.
The transfer marks a new chapter for one of Uganda’s most gifted midfielders, as he takes his talents to one of East Africa’s biggest football stages.
