KIKUUBE — Police in the Albertine South Region have launched investigations into a fatal road crash that claimed the life of Kikuube District LC5 Chairperson, Mr. Banura Peter.

According to Uganda Police Force, the incident occurred in Butyamba Village, within the Butyamba IDP area in Kikuube Town Council.

Preliminary reports indicate that Banura was knocked down by a speeding Toyota Hiace vehicle while in the area. He was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, sparking a manhunt. However, authorities have since recovered and impounded the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident.

“The driver is still at large, but efforts are ongoing to identify, trace and arrest him to assist with investigations,” police said in a statement.

Banura’s death has shocked leaders and residents in Kikuube District, where he served as the district’s top political leader.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
