Uganda Christian University (UCU) has sent off four students to Hanze University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands for a five-month academic exchange programme, strengthening the institution’s growing international partnerships and global engagement.
The students—two from the School of Social Sciences and two from the School of Business—were flagged off on January 28 under the UCU–Hanze partnership, which aims to expose learners to international learning environments and cross-cultural experiences.
Speaking during the blessing and send-off ceremony, UCU Vice Chancellor Canon Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi said international exchanges are a critical part of preparing students for professional service in a globalised world.
“We value these exchanges because they expose our students to the wider world, new cultures, new learning environments, and new skills,” Prof Mushengyezi said. “Through this experience, they return better equipped to practice their professions and serve society.”

He encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity by learning boldly, asking questions and upholding Christian values as ambassadors of both UCU and Uganda.
The students were formally blessed by the university leadership in the presence of parents, deans and academic staff. Speaking on behalf of the group, Esther Ankunda Agaba expressed gratitude to God, the university and their parents for the opportunity.
“We pledge to represent Uganda Christian University with excellence and integrity,” Agaba said.
Parents and faculty leaders praised the exchange programme, describing it as a milestone that reflects UCU’s growing global recognition and commitment to internationalisation.
The UCU–Hanze partnership is part of the university’s broader strategy to expand global collaborations, enhance academic exposure and equip graduates with skills relevant to both local and international contexts. University officials say such exchanges not only enrich student learning but also strengthen institutional ties and global visibility.
UCU continues to position itself as a leading faith-based university in the region, with increasing participation in international academic and professional exchange programmes.
