Apac, April 8, 2026 — Police in the North Kyoga Region are investigating a violent night attack on students of Apac Seed Secondary School, even as authorities report that Easter celebrations across most parts of the region remained largely peaceful, with only isolated security incidents recorded.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the attack occurred on April 5 at around 10:00 p.m. when an estimated 15 assailants armed with pangas and knives stormed the school premises after students responded to suspicious movements near the girls’ dormitory.
Seven students were injured, three of them critically. Police identified the victims as Ojok Ivan Okabo, Alele Jonathan, Oyile Jonathan, Ocen Sam, Awany Bruce, Odongo Ronald, and Odur Bonny.
Security teams from Apac Central Police Station responded swiftly and evacuated six of the injured students to Apac Main Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Authorities say some of the victims have indicated they may be able to identify their attackers, a development that could prove key to ongoing investigations.
“The injured students were promptly evacuated and are receiving medical attention. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and apprehend all those involved,” police said.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers and are reviewing intelligence reports as part of efforts to track down the suspects.
Elsewhere, police said Easter festivities across the North Kyoga Region were generally calm, with only minor incidents reported in some areas. However, authorities did not immediately release a consolidated national figure on the number of suspects arrested during the Easter period.
As of publication, no official nationwide Easter arrest statistics for 2026 had been publicly confirmed in verified police reports or major online releases, though police operations during festive seasons in previous years have typically resulted in multiple arrests linked to theft, public disorder, and related offences.
Security agencies have urged communities to remain vigilant as investigations continue, while reaffirming their commitment to maintaining safety around schools and public gatherings.
