African giants to clash in Afcon semi-final

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 has reached the business end, with Africa’s biggest names locking down the semi-final places after a pulsating quarter-final weekend.

Egypt, Nigeria, hosts Morocco and Senegal remain standing following matches that delivered drama, intensity and decisive moments.

Hosts Morocco will face Nigeria in a blockbuster semi-final, while Senegal take on seven-time champions Egypt. Both encounters are scheduled for Wednesday.

Egypt grabbed the final semi-final ticket after edging defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3-2 in a thrilling Saturday night clash, ending the Elephants’ title defence and setting up a heavyweight showdown with Senegal.

The Teranga Lions had earlier advanced with a gritty 1-0 victory over Mali, Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half strike enough to settle a tense West African derby as Senegal once again showed their tournament know-how.

Morocco continued their push for a first AFCON title in 50 years with a composed 2-0 win over Cameroon in Rabat. Goals from Brahim Diaz and Ismaël Saibari highlighted the Atlas Lions’ balance and confidence on home soil.

Nigeria completed the semi-final line-up with a 2-0 victory over Algeria in Marrakech. Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock before Akor Adams wrapped up the win late on to set up a mouthwatering clash with the hosts.

With experience now proving decisive, AFCON 2025 moves closer to its climax. The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday 14 January, ahead of the final in Rabat on 18 January.
