Kampala, April 8, 2026 — The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) has arrested a total of 82 suspects in a series of coordinated operations carried out across several divisions targeting robbery, drug-related offences, and violent crime.
According to a statement issued by Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were conducted in Nansana Municipality, central Kampala, Najjera, Kamwokya, and Kabalagala as part of intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in urban hotspots.
In Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, Arinaitwe Moses, 18, was arrested by officers from Yesu Amala Police Station while on patrol. He was allegedly found in possession of a panga suspected to have been intended for criminal activity.
In a separate operation on April 7, officers carried out raids in Biwologoma, Good Shade, Clock Tower, and Arua Park, resulting in the arrest of 43 suspects allegedly involved in crimes targeting members of the public. The suspects are detained at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala and are expected to appear in court.
Police also intercepted a suspected motorcycle phone snatcher in Kampala city centre who was found with multiple smartphones and allegedly admitted involvement in a wider criminal network.
In Najjera, Kira Municipality, a joint operation by police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) led to the arrest of three suspects linked to illegal cultivation and distribution of marijuana.
Another operation in Kamwokya conducted by the Kira Road Police Division resulted in the arrest of 35 suspects believed to be operating in known crime black spots.
In Kabalagala, police arrested Emma Muteso, a wanted suspect linked to aggravated robbery and murder cases. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.
“All suspects are in custody pending further investigations and court action,” ASP Owoyesigyire said, adding that police operations will continue across the Kampala Metropolitan area to curb rising urban crime.
