Kampala, April 8, 2026 — At least 50 foreign leaders are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, scheduled for May 12 in Kampala, according to media reports.
The ceremony will mark Museveni’s seventh term in office, extending his leadership of the East African nation to over four decades since he first came to power in 1986.
According to reports, invitations have been extended to heads of state and government from across Africa and beyond, reflecting Uganda’s diplomatic ties and regional influence.
Museveni, who leads the ruling National Resistance Movement, was declared the winner of the January 2026 presidential election after securing about 71.65 percent of the vote, according to official results.
The upcoming inauguration is expected to attract high-level delegations, diplomats, and international partners, continuing a tradition where Uganda hosts foreign dignitaries during presidential swearing-in ceremonies. Past inaugurations have drawn dozens of heads of state and representatives from global institutions.
The May 12 event will be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, with preparations already underway to accommodate both local and international guests.
Museveni’s latest electoral victory, however, has been contested by opposition figures, who cited irregularities, although the government maintains the process was free and fair.
The swearing-in is expected to serve as both a political milestone and a diplomatic gathering, bringing together regional and global leaders as Uganda begins a new five-year term under Museveni’s leadership.
