Lusaka – The Uganda High Commission accredited to Zambia successfully concluded a series of impactful activities in Lusaka centred around diaspora engagement and tourism promotion.
The initiatives underscored Uganda’s commitment to strengthening ties with its citizens abroad while promoting the country’s unique tourism offerings to the Zambian market.
The week-long engagement began with a Diaspora Outreach and National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) exercise, which brought government services closer to the Ugandan community living in Zambia.
The activity enabled hundreds of Ugandans to register and update their national identification details, ensuring improved access to government services and strengthening their connection to home.
Amb. Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, the High Commissioner and Mission team interacted directly with community members, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to an inclusive and responsive diaspora policy.
Building on the momentum of engagement, the Mission hosted the first-ever Uganda Tourism Roadshow in Zambia under the theme “Experience the Pearl of Africa.”
The event spotlighted Uganda’s diverse tourism attractions from gorilla trekking and adventure safaris to cultural heritage and culinary experiences, and connected Zambian destination marketing companies, tour operators, and travel agencies to Uganda’s leading tourism institutions and private sector.
The Roadshow was graced by the Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities of the Republic of Uganda, who interacted with participants and emphasised the importance of regional collaboration in promoting Africa as a shared tourism destination.
He commended the Zambian tourism fraternity for their enthusiasm and expressed optimism for developing multi-destination packages that connect Zambia and Uganda.
The series of engagements culminated in a vibrant 63rd Independence Day Celebration for, held on 19th October 2025 at the Pamodzi Hotel.
The event brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Ugandan diaspora, Zambian officials, and friends of Uganda to celebrate the country’s achievements since independence and reaffirm the enduring bonds of friendship between Uganda and Zambia.
Through these activities, the Uganda High Commission demonstrated its steadfast commitment to fostering people-to-people connections, supporting diaspora inclusion, and promoting Uganda’s economic diplomacy within the region.
