Kampala, Uganda — Police in Nsangi Division have arrested 32 suspects during an overnight disruptive operation aimed at curbing rising criminal activity in areas surrounding Kyengera.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation was conducted in Kyengera Central, Nabaziza, Masanda, and Kinawa following reports of youths allegedly involved in smoking suspected narcotic drugs and stealing phones and bags, particularly during rush hours.

The operation was carried out between 10:30PM and 3:30AM, targeting hotspots identified by security after complaints from residents and commuters.

“A total of thirty-two (32) suspects were arrested and are currently detained at Kyengera Police Station pending screening and further investigation,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police said the suspects will be screened as investigations continue to establish their involvement in the reported criminal activities.

ASP Owoyesigyire reiterated that law enforcement agencies remain committed to restoring safety in the area and ensuring residents are protected.

“Police remain committed to maintaining law and order in the area,” he added.

The operation comes amid increasing concern from the public over theft incidents and drug-related behaviour in parts of Wakiso District, especially during peak hours when commuters are traveling to and from work.
