Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba has assured Ugandans that security agencies will not allow any individual or group to disrupt peace as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
In remarks shared by the Uganda Police Force, Byakagaba said elections will take place in a secure and orderly environment, emphasising that maintaining law and order remains the core responsibility of the police.
“I’m giving you full assurance that nobody is going to disturb the peace in this country. Elections are going to take place with utmost good environment,” the IGP said.
He stressed that police are focused on ensuring that all stakeholders comply with the law throughout the electoral process.
“Elections are going to take place. No individual or group is going to disturb the peace in this country. Our responsibility is to maintain law and order, ensure peace, and make sure that all stakeholders operate within the law,” Byakagaba added.
The police chief noted that the force is working closely with other security agencies to guarantee public safety before, during and after the elections, expressing confidence that Uganda will experience a peaceful electoral period. “We are looking forward to a very peaceful election,” he said.
The assurance comes at a time of heightened political mobilisation ahead of the next general elections, with security agencies repeatedly calling for calm and lawful conduct from all actors.
