National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has accused masked, armed soldiers of breaking into his home and assaulting his family members during a late-night raid on Friday, January 23, 2026.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kyagulanyi, who is currently in hiding, said the attackers beat members of his family and isolated his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi.
“A group of masked, armed soldiers has just broken into our house and beat up my family members. They have currently isolated my wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, alone. Their intentions are unclear!” he wrote.
The incident comes days after Kyagulanyi reportedly escaped from his residence following a military raid on the night of January 16. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
In a video recorded by Ms Kyagulanyi and obtained by this publication, she is heard confronting the intruders and repeatedly asking them to explain their motive for the raid.
The developments follow the January 15 presidential election, in which President Yoweri Museveni was declared winner with 71.65 percent of the vote, results that Kyagulanyi has publicly rejected.
In a separate statement, the opposition leader said he remains under threat and accused the state of targeting both him and his party leadership.
“I am not free. My home is still under siege, and the criminal regime is trying to hunt me down,” Kyagulanyi said. “And yet, three out of my four Deputy Presidents are also in detention.”
He listed several senior NUP leaders who he said are either missing or in custody.
“My Deputy President for Northern Uganda, Dr Lina Zedriga Waru, is still missing, having been abducted from her home on 15th January,” he said. “My Deputy President for Western Uganda, Hon. Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba, is still missing, having been abducted from Rukiga District on 14th January.”
Kyagulanyi added that his Deputy President for Central Region, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, had been arrested and was being held at Kira Division Police Station.
“My Deputy President for Central Region, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, was today arrested and he’s currently being held at Kira Division Police,” he said.
Despite the escalating situation, Kyagulanyi struck a defiant tone.
“As the persecution intensifies, may we remain rooted in hope and faith, that our struggle — the Ugandan struggle — will end in victory,” he said.
By press time, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and police had not issued an official statement in response to the allegations.
