The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will issue hard copies of the photo-bearing National Voters’ Register to all candidates contesting the 2026 Presidential Elections.
This move follows the earlier distribution of digital copies to the candidates, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Commission Act.
The National Voters’ Register contains the names of 21,681,491 registered voters, listed alphabetically by surname, across 50,739 polling stations nationwide. The Commission said the purpose of issuing the Register is to allow candidates, through their official agents, to ensure that only eligible voters participate in the elections and only at their designated polling stations.
“The issuance of this Register should put to rest any concerns about its readiness for the 2026 General Elections,” the EC said in a statement. The Register, which includes voter photographs, will serve as the official reference for voting, and all individuals listed are eligible to vote regardless of whether they possess a National Identity Card.
Constituency-level Voters’ Registers are also available to other political parties and candidates on application to the Secretary of the Commission, with payment of the relevant fees.
As the country enters the final weeks of the campaign period, the EC urged all candidates, political parties, agents, and supporters to exercise restraint, uphold peace, and respect the rule of law. The Commission emphasised that peaceful conduct before, during, and after polling is essential for credible elections and national stability.
The EC also cautioned against the dissemination of unverified information regarding voter registration, highlighting that sharing personal voter information on social media violates privacy laws and may constitute misinformation. Any complaints about the Register should be addressed directly to the Commission through its established offices.
In its New Year message, the Commission extended best wishes to all Ugandans and called upon citizens to actively contribute to a peaceful and successful electoral process, underscoring its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and transparent elections in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Uganda.
