Entebbe — The Uganda High Commission Dar es Salaam has successfully concluded a Mauritius Travel-Trade Delegation Familiarisation Mission, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation, expanding commercial visibility, and deepening Africa-to-Africa partnerships.
The delegation, which arrived on 21 November 2025, undertook a comprehensive exploration of Uganda’s signature tourism offerings, following a programme coordinated by the High Commission in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and tourism-sector stakeholders.
Throughout their stay, the delegation was immersed in a curated itinerary designed to showcase Uganda’s conservation achievements, cultural richness, and its position as a premier destination for sustainable tourism and investment. Key highlights included Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, the Batwa cultural experience, and the world-renowned mountain gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi an experience several delegates described as life-changing.
The group was guided by Afrireps, whose leadership and knowledge provided the delegation with a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s “Big Seven,” its diverse landscapes, and the economic significance of tourism in shaping Uganda’s development trajectory. Delegates praised the warmth of the Ugandan people, the vibrancy of the cultural encounters, and the authenticity of the experiences shared. Several expressed keen interest in developing new Uganda-based travel packages tailored for the Mauritian market.
Representing the delegation, Mr Ivan Stone commended Uganda for its exceptional hospitality and the transformational nature of the mission. Delegates also shared personal reflections from intimate wildlife encounters to the powerful scenery of Murchison Falls, describing Uganda as a destination with unmatched character and depth.
Representing the Head of the Consulate of Mauritius in Kampala, Mr Aurther Nzeyi conveyed deep appreciation to the Uganda High Commission Dar es Salaam for its leadership and continued commitment to strengthening strategic and diplomatic ties. He highlighted the mission as an exemplary model of how African countries can leverage tourism to advance mutual understanding, commercial cooperation, and shared prosperity.
In his remarks, H.E. Amb. Col. (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania and Accredited to Mauritius, applauded the delegation’s engagement and reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to nurturing long-term partnerships with Mauritius.
“We are delighted that the mission offered a life-changing experience. Uganda remains committed to strengthening our partnership with Mauritius and promoting two-way tourism and investment flows. With visa-free access for Mauritian travellers, our doors are wide open for deeper collaboration, shared prosperity, and sustained growth.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Uganda Tourism Board underscored that the familiarisation mission represents more than a tourism showcase; it is a demonstration of Africa’s potential when countries invest in one another, build joint markets, and amplify a unified voice in global travel conversations. As the delegation returns home, Uganda remains steadfast in its commitment to welcoming the world one partnership at a time and to positioning the Pearl of Africa as a competitive hub for tourism, investment, and cultural diplomacy.
