Police in Isingiro District have made a breakthrough in the murder of Karuhanga Gordon, a 48-year-old resident of Rugaara Cell, Kagarama Parish, Kagarama Sub-county.
Following the report of the killing, police swiftly deployed a team of homicide detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers and a K-9 unit to the scene. A detailed examination was carried out, after which a sniffer dog was introduced to track the suspect.
The dog picked up the strongest scent believed to belong to the attacker and followed it for about 100 metres from the crime scene, eventually leading officers to a suspect identified only as Gerald, who was among the community members present at the scene.
According to police, the complainant identified Gerald as a co-worker of the deceased. Preliminary findings indicate that the two men were employed by the same person to work on a plantation and were living together in the same house.
Upon his arrest, the suspect was found with bloodstains on his hands, suspected to be of human origin. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to having fought with the deceased during the night, along with four other individuals who were in the house, after they returned from a drinking joint.
Police also recovered suspected murder weapons at the scene, including a pit axe and a stick, both bearing bloodstains. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
