Police in Wakiso District are investigating an aggravated robbery incident in which a 19-year-old bodaboda rider was attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and other valuables.

According to a statement issued on March 11 by Luke Owoyesigyire, officers at Uganda Police Force attached to Kyengera Police Station are handling the case that occurred on March 9 at around 10:00pm.

Police said the victim, who operates from the Kings Sport Betting stage at Kinaawa Branch, was hired by two unknown men from Kyengera Trading Centre to transport them to Kyengera Parents Primary School in Mugongo “A”.

However, shortly into the journey the suspects allegedly asked the rider to continue further toward Mpigi District, where they were joined by another accomplice who was reportedly armed with a panga.

“Along the way, the suspects attacked the rider, grabbed him by the neck and robbed him,” police said in the statement.

The attackers made off with a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UDX 457B valued at about Shs3 million, a Samsung mobile phone valued at Shs300,000 and Shs50,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.

The victim later raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to intervene. One suspect identified as Zziwa Moses was arrested by residents and handed over to police.

Police said the suspect later led officers to a parking yard in Wakimese Cell, Kyengera Ward in Kyengera Town Council, where the stolen motorcycle had been abandoned.

The suspect is currently being held at Kyengera Police Station as investigations continue, while police intensify efforts to identify and arrest the other suspects who remain at large.

Authorities say the recovered motorcycle has been secured as an exhibit as investigations into the robbery continue.
