Bugiri & Namutumba — Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu intensified his campaign in eastern Uganda, casting himself as the moral anchor and stabilising force the country needs after “40 years of broken promises and shattered trust.”

His pitch comes as he prepares for the Presidential Debate scheduled for Sunday, November 30, where ANT says he will present a vision rooted in integrity, institutional reform and peaceful political transition.

Uganda needs a redeemer

According to NBS Television, Muntu told voters in Namisindwa earlier in the week that Uganda is ready for a different kind of leadership.

“Uganda needs a redeemer — not a ruler. Someone honest, steady, and committed to rebuilding what has been destroyed,” Muntu said. “We must choose leaders who serve, not those who intoxicate us with lofty promises they will never keep.”

Campaigning in Bugiri and later Namutumba on Saturday, the ANT flag bearer repeated the theme of moral leadership.

“Trust us to deliver the kind of leadership that will transform Uganda,” he said. “We are offering disciplined leaders, empowered citizens, and effective institutions — that is the foundation of a country that works.”

People First, A New Future

From Palisa to Bukada, Butebo to Kibuku, the party has been touting its slogan — People First, A New Future — framing itself as a disciplined alternative in a crowded presidential field.

“Our commitment is to create a Uganda that works for all,” ANT stated during its outreach in Palisa and Bukada. “Vote ANT, vote Mugisha Muntu. Choose the change you can trust.”

The party insists it stands out because of values, not volume. “We stand out for our integrity, competence, and unwavering commitment to building a better future for all Ugandans,” the party said while campaigning in Mbale and Butaleja. “We are not here to make noise; we are here to rebuild.”

Healing scars from war and bad leadership

Muntu has positioned himself as a leader capable of managing a peaceful transition and restoring public trust.

“There is no more reason to fear,” ANT declared in a statement. “We will competently manage a stable, peaceful and inclusive political transition.”

The party’s messaging frequently acknowledges Uganda’s long history of conflict and marginalisation.

“Millions of Ugandans still nurse scars of war, bad leadership and decades of exclusion,” ANT said during a tour of the Teso sub-region. “After 40 years of broken livelihoods, it is time to retire the old guard and embrace change rooted in dignity, justice and transformation.”

Protecting mineral wealth and rebuilding institutions

Muntu has also pledged to defend Uganda’s natural resources from exploitation. “We will offer honest and accountable leadership to protect Uganda’s mineral wealth,” he said on the campaign trail.

In Karamoja, ANT promised to ensure minerals benefit local people directly. “Karamoja’s mineral wealth must uplift its people through fair royalties and local processing,” Muntu said. “Justice must pave the way for lasting peace.”

A disciplined alternative gearing up for the debate

With the presidential debate hours away, ANT says Muntu will articulate a calm, principled, and reform-oriented agenda.

“Our vision is not merely to govern, but to serve,” ANT noted. “Not merely to occupy positions, but to spearhead real transformation. Not merely to promise — but to deliver.”

As the campaign moves into its decisive stretch, Muntu is leaning heavily into his brand: steady, ethical leadership guided by institutions rather than personality.
