Mauritius travel-trade delegation in Uganda for tourism fam trip

Uganda, on Saturday, 22 November 2025, welcomed a Mauritius Travel-Trade Delegation for a week-long familiarisation mission aimed at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation, enhancing commercial visibility, and deepening inter-market partnerships.

The delegation—received at Entebbe International Airport aboard Kenya Airways—was welcomed by officials from the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), AfriReps Consult, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other sector partners. They were greeted with Uganda’s signature warmth and hospitality as they embarked on an immersive exploration of the Pearl of Africa’s landscapes, conservation wins, and cultural diversity.

The mission is aligned with Uganda’s broader strategy to promote Africa-to-Africa tourism, advance continental collaboration, and position the country as a leading sustainable destination in the global tourism marketplace.

Speaking on behalf of the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Ms Laura Kahuga, First Secretary, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and urged them to enjoy Uganda’s authentic tourism experiences, cultural vibrancy, and renowned hospitality.

In her remarks, Ms Kahuga emphasised the strategic importance of the mission, describing it as a milestone in advancing tourism diplomacy. She highlighted Uganda’s rich biodiversity, conservation leadership, and cultural heritage as strong foundations for joint promotion and expanded cross-border trade.

“This initiative reflects our shared commitment to strengthening African tourism corridors and enhancing cooperation anchored in sustainability, knowledge exchange, and market diversification,” she said. “By hosting Mauritius’ top travel-trade representatives, Uganda demonstrates its readiness to cultivate new connections, shape fresh narratives, and unlock broader opportunities across the region.”

Over seven days, the delegation will experience some of Uganda’s flagship attractions—including Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest, the Batwa cultural experience, and the world-famous gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi. The itinerary has been curated to showcase Uganda’s tourism strengths, conservation achievements, and the pivotal role the sector plays in the country’s economic diplomacy.

Throughout the mission, the team will interact with tourism authorities, conservation experts, cultural institutions, and private-sector leaders to explore collaborative opportunities, joint marketing initiatives, and ways to improve connectivity between Uganda and Mauritius.

Both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UTB reaffirmed that this familiarisation trip is not only a celebration of Uganda’s tourism excellence but also a demonstration of Africa’s vast potential when nations partner, invest in one another, and present a united front on the global travel stage.
