5th edition of Equity–NARO golf open unveiled

Namulonge — Equity Bank Uganda, in partnership with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), has unveiled the 5th Edition of the Equity NARO Golf Open, set to take place from November 27–29 at the iconic Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge.

The 2025 tournament will run under the theme “17 Years of Transforming Lives in Uganda,” marking Equity Bank’s 17-year milestone of driving financial inclusion, innovation, and shared prosperity across the country.

Situated at Uganda’s largest agricultural research centre, the 9-hole Mary Louise Simkins course has long been regarded as a cradle of budding golf excellence. Its reputation as a nurturing ground for rising talent continues to position it as one of the country’s most influential golfing spaces.

During the launch, Equity Bank Uganda Executive Director Claver Serumaga emphasized the Bank’s dedication to promoting sports and community development.

“This year’s Equity NARO Open is more than a tournament; it is a celebration of legacy, community, and the power of nurturing talent. As we mark 17 years of serving Ugandans with transformational financial solutions, we are proud to stand with Namulonge Golf Club, a place that has shaped and inspired the country’s golfing talent for generations,” Serumaga noted.

He added that to honour the anniversary, the tournament’s 17th hole will be specially branded as the Equity 17th Hole, symbolizing the Bank’s journey of impact alongside its customers and partners.

The three-day event is expected to draw an impressive field of professional golfers, corporate executives, amateur players, customers, and community partners. One of the standout attractions will be the fully customized 17th hole, designed to reflect Equity Bank’s 17-year legacy.

The longstanding Equity–NARO partnership has played a pivotal role in expanding the tournament’s stature. What began as a stakeholder engagement activity has grown into one of Central Uganda’s most respected golf competitions. In recent months, Namulonge has also hosted major tournaments—including the Namulonge Ladies Open (May 2025) and the K&K Invitational Pro-Am (July 2025)—both supported by Equity Bank.

This year’s competition promises heightened excitement, with star golfer Meron Kyomugisha—winner of the 2022 Namulonge edition and the recent 27th Kinyara Golf Open—among the top contenders. The field will also feature professional golfers from Zimbabwe, further cementing the tournament’s growing regional appeal.

Lady Captain Sheila Aine also applauded Equity Bank’s unwavering support for the club and the wider golfing community. “This is truly an honour for our club. The Equity Namulonge Golf Open provides an opportunity to showcase our beautiful course and to continue building and supporting women’s golf in Uganda. We are excited for this edition and deeply appreciate Equity Bank and all our partners,” Aine said.

The 2025 Equity NARO Golf Open is shaping up to be the tournament’s grandest edition yet—uniting competitive sport, community spirit, and the power of long-standing partnership.
