Two arrested with 30 live rounds in Gulu city

Police in Gulu City have arrested two men after they were allegedly found in possession of 30 rounds of live ammunition during a security operation carried out on Sunday.

The suspects were identified as Joshua Opwomungu (18) and Willy Kilama (40). Authorities said the arrests followed a coordinated operation by security agencies aimed at cracking down on illegal firearms and ammunition within the city.

According to police sources, the operation was launched after security personnel received intelligence information, leading to the interception of the two suspects. A search reportedly resulted in the recovery of 30 live rounds, although the calibre of the ammunition had not been confirmed by press time.

The suspects are currently being held at Gulu Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police said inquiries are underway to determine the source of the ammunition and whether the suspects are linked to any criminal groups operating in the region.

Police noted that unlawful possession of ammunition is a serious offence under Ugandan law and carries heavy penalties if proven in court.

Security officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in Gulu and its surrounding areas, and appealed to the public to provide timely information to help curb crime.
