The Joint Task Force (JTF) carried out a series of coordinated operations across Wakiso District and Kampala on 16 February 2026, resulting in the arrest of more than 250 suspects in a major anti-crime crackdown.
The operations targeted areas identified as crime hotspots, including Nansana West Ward, Kyebando, Gganda, and other parts of Nansana Municipality in Wakiso; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma, Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District (CBD).
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the raids focused on dismantling criminal gathering points and curbing activities that have affected residents and members of the public.
The results of the operations included: 65 suspects arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 suspects arrested in Kira Municipality, 16 suspects arrested in Kyanja and 136 suspects (134 males and 2 females) arrested in Kampala’s CBD.
All suspects were screened and charged with offenses related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other associated crimes. Exhibits of suspected narcotics were recovered during the operations. The arrested individuals are currently detained at local police stations pending further processing and court appearances.
ASP Owoyesigyire described the operations as “successful” and part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements, enhance public safety, and ensure a peaceful environment for citizens. The police force assured the public that similar operations would continue across the country to maintain law and order.
