Coach Mike Mutebi found alive in Kisubi after disappearance

ENTEBBE, Uganda — Ugandan football coach Mike Mutebi has been found alive in Kisubi, Wakiso District, hours after police launched a search following his disappearance over the weekend.

According to authorities, Mutebi was recovered on Monday near a banana plantation in Kisubi and was immediately taken to hospital where medical personnel are assessing his health condition.

Police thanked members of the public who shared information that helped locate the veteran coach.

Earlier, Uganda Police Force had issued an appeal after Mutebi went missing on March 7, 2026, from Kisubi Beach.

In a statement, police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Mutebi had attended a Catholic seminar at the beach and was last seen at about 6:30 pm as participants prepared to travel back to Kampala.

However, upon arrival in Kawempe, organisers reportedly realised that he could not be accounted for, prompting concerns about his whereabouts.

Police in Entebbe opened an investigation and asked the public to provide any information that could help trace the coach.

Authorities have not yet revealed the circumstances under which Mutebi was found or whether any foul play is suspected.

Mutebi is one of Uganda’s most prominent football coaches, widely known for his long managerial career in the Uganda Premier League, including his successful stint with Kampala Capital City Authority FC.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are ongoing.
