From village roots to global fame: The rise of traditional healer Ssalongo Muzanganda

In the quiet rural community of Ntwentwe, a traditional healer known as Ssalongo Muzanganda has steadily built a name for himself as a cultural consultant whose services are sought by people facing different life challenges.

Known among residents for his calm demeanor and deep connection to traditional practices, Muzanganda says his work is rooted in cultural knowledge passed down through generations. Over the years, he has become a familiar figure for people seeking help with personal, family and financial concerns.

Locals say his journey began modestly, offering guidance to people within his immediate community. But as testimonies from those who claim to have benefited from his consultations spread, more people began travelling from nearby districts to seek his services.

Among the issues he says he handles are cases related to male sexual strength (Amaanyi g’obusajja – Man power), infertility among couples (Oluzaalo) and marital disputes (Obufumbo – Marriage).

He also says he offers consultations to people searching for employment opportunities (Emirimu – Jobs) and individuals hoping to improve their financial fortunes (Omukisa gwa ssente).

Small business owners are another group that frequently seek his help, often requesting cultural guidance intended to boost their businesses and attract more customers (By’otunda binganye).

In addition, Muzanganda says he provides consultations to families with relatives who are in prison (Omuntu wo nga ali mu kkomera), offering spiritual encouragement and cultural advice during difficult times.

He also handles cases believed to be linked to cultural or spiritual disturbances, including individuals said to be suffering from mental challenges associated with traditional beliefs (Omulalu eyagala oterera – ebizibu by’ennono).

Another area of his work involves advising people who want to determine whether certain opportunities in their lives may bring blessings or misfortune (Okumanya oba kintu kya mukisa oba kya kwambulira).

Residents in the area say his reputation has grown largely through word of mouth.

Bukenya Brain, a resident who says he has witnessed Muzanganda’s work, believes the healer has helped many people in the community.

“What I can say is that he works for real. Many people here have gone to him with different problems and they have received help. His services work very well,” Bukenya said.

According to Bukenya, the healer’s reputation has gradually spread beyond Uganda, with people from countries such as the United States, Canada and Turkey reportedly contacting him after hearing about his work.

While traditional healing remains a sensitive and often debated subject in modern society, many rural communities in Uganda continue to rely on cultural practitioners for guidance and solutions to challenges they face.

For Ssalongo Muzanganda, the work remains a calling rooted in tradition.

He says his goal is simply to help people find solutions to the problems affecting their lives while preserving cultural knowledge that has existed for generations.
