Police arrest 3 in Nsangi motorcycle theft crackdown

Police in Wakiso District have arrested three suspects in an ongoing crackdown on an organised network accused of stealing, dismantling and altering motorcycles in Nsangi and surrounding areas.

The operation was carried out by the Uganda Police Force under the Kampala Metropolitan Police South command.

According to police, the operation took place on March 2, 2026 at around 5:00pm in Kigwanya Cell, Nabbingo Parish, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District following intelligence linking a suspect to the robbery of a motorcycle from Arua District.

Police identified the prime suspect as Kabogoza Kefa, also known as Kivumbi, a 22-year-old mechanic and resident of Kigwanya Cell. He is accused of robbing a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration number UFU 119N) on February 27, 2026 from a victim believed to be from Saziro Village in Arua District.

Investigators say the suspect transported the stolen motorcycle to Nsangi where it was allegedly taken to a garage to have its identification details altered.

“On March 1, 2026 at about 7:00pm, the suspect reportedly delivered the stolen motorcycle to a garage known as Younger’s Garage located in Buwali Village near Emma Oil Petrol Station in Nsangi, with the intention of altering the engine and registration details to conceal its identity,” police said in a statement.

A team of officers from Nabbingo Police Station later raided the garage and recovered several exhibits including: a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UFU 119N), a Spiro motorcycle (registration UMA 399DF), a number plate UEU 629L, one motorcycle exhaust pipe and one motorcycle seat cushion.

Police say the recovery of additional parts and another motorcycle suggests the existence of a larger racket involved in dismantling and modifying stolen motorcycles for resale.

Three suspects were arrested during the operation: Kabogoza Kefa alias Kivumbi – the prime suspect, Bbagala Shafik alias Younger – proprietor of the garage and Aryatuha Samson – a parking attendant where the exhibits were kept.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, police have recorded statements from witnesses and suspects, photographed the scene and exhibits, and secured the recovered items pending forensic examination.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify additional accomplices, trace the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles, and ensure appropriate charges are preferred in courts of law,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as authorities continue efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks involved in motorcycle theft, a crime that frequently targets Uganda’s boda boda transport sector.
